ARCTURA Design + Build is the shared vision of Sean Berman and Dan Ullmer, two longtime friends, frequent collaborators and passionate builders. After years of running their own parallel ventures and amassing decades of experience in the industry, a creative dialogue between friends grew into a dedicated partnership under a new banner. Sean draws on his experience in construction management and structural engineering to lead projects with clarity, structure, and efficiency. At the core of his philosophy is a passion for honest communication, allowing him to provide a superlative level of client advocacy on all our projects. Dan is a lifelong builder and Master Carpenter who has the full suite of on-site skills as his disposal. This comprehensive understanding of interlocking trades allows him to direct projects with a general’s verve and a conductor’s instinct for tempo. From this solid foundation they have assembled a crew of talented, like-minded individuals whose collective knowledge and skills constantly broaden the scope of what we have to offer.

Sean has over two decades of experience in construction management, bringing a background in structural engineering, high performance methodology, and custom timber framing. This unique skillset positions him as a valuable bridge between the creative vision and the careful execution of their tangible counterparts.
He excels at providing practical and timely solutions - addressing challenges proactively, fostering collaboration and minimizing potential roadblocks during our most complex builds.

A seasoned builder with over 20 years of experience, Dan began his journey crafting homes in Florida at a young age before settling in Portland where he has continued to hone his craft.
Dan's extensive experience across multiple trades and his profound passion for quality craftsmanship make him a formidable site leader.

DAN ULLMER - Co-Owner, Director of Construction
Inspired by her photography background and driven by a deep appreciation for aesthetic balance, Jess has mastered the art of creating a beautiful living environment.
For the last decade, Jess has been revitalizing spaces in and around Portland. Her adeptness in harmonizing colors and textures, coupled with her understanding of ergonomics and comfort, enables her to weave enchanting transformations.

Bringing a breadth of professional experience, Allegra supports the craft of building through thoughtful systems and attention to process. Drawing from a background in operations, administration, somatic arts, performance, and anthropology, she values the connection between big-picture vision and detailed execution. She delights in helping projects and relationships move forward with clarity, creativity, and respect.

Matthew brings skill, precision, and drive to every ARCTURA project he supports. With a background in management, operations, systems building, and client relations, he ensures seamless collaboration between clients, partners, and our in-house team. Highly capable, motivated, and dedicated to excellence, Matthew approaches every detail with thoughtfulness and a problem-solving mindset.
MATTHEW THOMAS - Project Engineer
Gavin is a highly skilled lead carpenter with 30 years of hands-on experience across a wide range of projects. From high-end beachfront properties in Hawaii to mountain chalets in Colorado, his diverse background brings a wealth of knowledge to every build. After working in multiple regions, Gavin has chosen to settle in Portland, continuing to craft with precision and care.
GAVIN PESSIN - Lead Carpenter
Will brings his experience in custom furniture, boutique projects, and large-scale art installations to every ARCTURA project he works on. He approaches each task with enthusiasm and a constant drive to expand his skills.
Will also manages ARCTURA’s marketing efforts, thoughtfully engaging and connecting with our community.
Beyond his carpentry and marketing expertise, he brings incredible positivity and energy to the team, fostering collaboration and inspiring those around him.
